A little Nina Simone for the new year, 2012. I cannot resolve that we shall overcome all strife, racism, and injustice because no one person can resolve for the whole, but I can pray that we shall overcome.

When you give this song the spiritual identity as a prayer it takes on a very different meaning.
It's a good choice because I think that we are about to hit that push come to shove moment in our story. It's not going to be easy to hold on to our peace and I am anticipating a surge of anger that has not engulfed this nation in a long time.
But we'll be up for the challenge when it arrives. I'll be keeping this song in mind during the year.
